ABOUT THIS COURSE

Breathe new life into your faith by rediscovering the ancient spiritual practices of the Christian mystics.

Since the early church, Christian mystics have experienced the presence of God in direct and transformative ways — such as meditation, visualization, art, contemplative prayer, and more.

These practices invite us into imagination, intimacy and feeling, revealing a pathway for cultivating compassion for others.

Discover how the ancient practices of the Christian mystics can equip us to live into our faith tradition's calling to "become loving as God is loving, compassionate as God is compassionate."

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

1

In this online contemplative workshop, we'll engage spiritual practices developed by Christian mystics over the centuries. Through gaining a deeper understanding of the spiritual practices of the past, you'll find a fresh way forward in your faith.

2

We'll also look at how these ancient spiritual practices equip us to cultivate compassion through imagination, intimacy and feeling, as described in Living Compassion: Loving Like Jesus by Andrew Dreitcer, Director of Spiritual Formation, Co-Director of the Center for Engaged Compassion and Professor of Spirituality at the Claremont School of Theology.

3

Finally, we'll explore compassion practices from the earliest centuries of Christianity to the present. Each practice moves us from understanding compassion to more fully embodying love for ourselves and others.
